The evolution of the Arsenal kit
Arsenal's original dark-red kit dates back to 1886. However, the look took shape in March 1933, when Herbert Chapman put the team in red shirts with white sleeves for a home game against Liverpool. Almost every home kit has them.
Bukta and Umbro made the shirts from the 1930s to the early 1980s with no commercial shirt sponsor. JVC became the club's first shirt sponsor in 1981, and Adidas arrived in 1986. Its 1991-93 away shirt, a loud yellow design nicknamed the Bruised Banana, is still a fan favourite.
Nike took over in 1994. Its 20 years covered the 2003/04 Invincibles, who went 38 league games unbeaten. They also made the redcurrant shirt worn for the last season at Highbury in 2005/06.
Emirates has been on the front since 2006. But Puma's 2014 deal was the biggest in the club's history at the time, and Adidas returned in 2019, with a reimagining of the Bruised Banana for its first away kit.
