How the AC Milan kit has changed
Milan’s colours go back to founder Herbert Kilpin, who chose red for the fire of the club's devils and black for the fear they would strike into opponents. Red and black stripes with white shorts have been the home look ever since.
The modern style arrived under Silvio Berlusconi in 1986, when the stripes were widened, and the socks turned white. Kappa's 1987-90 home shirt, with Mediolanum on the front and Gullit, Van Basten, and Rijkaard inside it, tops many rankings of Milan’s best kits.
Opel was the sponsor from 1994, on Lotto and Adidas shirts, before Bwin took over in 2006. Meanwhile, the all-white away kit became Milan’s lucky charm in Europe, worn for five of their first six European Cup wins.
Emirates has been on the front since 2010/11. But Puma replaced Adidas as kit maker from the 2018/19 season.
